May Exhibition – Deb Scott

Deb Scott has a passion for the imperfect. Scott’s finely crafted Souls of the Skunk River revel in this idea with engaging busts and high relief sculptures outfitted with ephemera. Each sculpture is enhanced with a story dreamed up to further the viewer’s understanding and context of the caricatures they are encountering. With names like Effie May Cross, Rube Mathis or Purdy the Hornet Reader, any one of these individual characters could have a volume written to tell their tale, or a Disney movie made about them. They are not flawless or beautiful, but that is not the type of art Scott is interested in. Rather, she strives for authentic and engaging. This exhibition features these figurative sculptures along with a collection of watercolors. The Opening Reception for Souls of the Skunk River by Deb Scott is Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 5pm to 7pm. Everyone is welcome to come meet the artist and enjoy complimentary refreshments at the FMAAA Art Center located at 825 Avenue G in Fort Madison, IA. This exhibition is graciously sponsored by Great River Health.

Thank You for Making Artistry After Dark 2025 Unforgettable
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping make this year’s Artistry After Dark a resounding success.
On April 26th, our venue came alive with creativity, connection, and community. From the stunning live performances and inspired auction pieces to the energetic conversations—it was clear that our mission to connect people through art is stronger than ever.
Whether you joined us in person, donated artwork, volunteered your time, bid in the auction, or simply helped spread the word—we are grateful. Together, we raised critical support that helps sustain year-round arts programming, youth education, exhibitions, and community events that make Fort Madison a more vibrant place to live and create.
Your generosity doesn’t just keep our doors open—it opens new doors for others to discover, experience, and fall in love with the arts.
On behalf of our team, volunteers, and board—thank you. Let’s continue to build a creative, welcoming space for all. We can’t wait to see you again!
With gratitude,
Molly Smeltser, Director and
